Menstrual Changes

Women with cancer may experience changes in their menstrual cycle. Menstruation is a function of the tissue inside the uterus as well as the balance of hormones in the female body. Cancers themselves, or their treatments, may have direct impact on the menses, causing any of the following symptoms:

  • Irregular menses

  • Heavy bleeding

  • Reduced bleeding

  • Absence of menses

Heavy bleeding may also be due to low platelets or coagulation problems related to the cancer itself or to the treatment.
