Cytoxan (Cyclophosphamide)

Cytoxan is one of the older chemotherapy drugs which has been available for use , for decades. Cytoxan comes in pill form, as well as a white powder, which, when made ready for use, is a clear color liquid. It is given by intravenous route. It is most commonly used in treatment of the following cancers:

• Breast

• Lymphomas

• Leukemias

• Multiple Myeloma

• Ovarian

• Lung

• Bladder

• Soft tissue sarcomas

• Bone

The type and extent of a cancer will determine the method and schedule of administration of this drug. This decision is made by the medical oncologist. Cytoxan may be given as intravenous infusion or orally.

Side Effects:

The degree and severity of the side effects depend on the amount and schedule of the administration of Cytoxan. Following are some of the most common and significant ill effects:

• Nausea, vomiting

• Soreness of the mouth, difficulty swallowing

• Diarrhea

• Low white blood counts

• Anemia

• Low platelet count

• Hair Loss

• Irritation and bleeding of bladder
