Carboplatin (Paraplatin)

Carboplatin is one of the newer chemotherapy drugs which has been in use for over a decade. It is an active medicine against many cancers. Carboplatin is a white powder which ,when prepared for use is a clear, colorless liquid. It is given by intravenous route only and is most commonly used in treatment of the following cancers:

The type and extent of a cancer will determine the method and schedule of administration of this drug. This decision is made by the medical oncologist. Carboplatin may be given as a continuous intravenous infusion over four to five days, or given on a scheduled basis, e.g., once a week or once every three to four weeks, etc.)

The degree and severity of the side effects depend on the amount and schedule of the administration of Carboplatin. Following are some of the most common and significant ill effects:
